5 Elements to an App Description That Will Get Users to Download

Most users only read the first three lines of an app’s app store description. This is quite unfortunate, as an app’s description is a great opportunity to deliver a strong marketing message. One lesson to learn from this is that you should open strong to get users’ attention right away, but what can you do in order to pass the third line barrier? The following steps will help you craft a killer app description that’ll hook users and convince them to download your app:

 

1. How May I Help You?

The first question users ask themselves before tapping “Get” and downloading an app is, “What do I need this app for?” Making potential users’ lives easier by including the answer to this question in your app description can go a long way. All you have to do is create a section called: “What You Can Do With [app name]” or “How Can [app name] Help You?”

 

2. Be a Show Off

Your app page is not the place to be modest. Do you have a huge amount of active users? Did you previously win an award? This information should be one of the first things to be read by potential users and function as a catalyst for them to download your app. The beginning of your description should also state why and how you’re different than competitors – assemble all of your unique qualities into one, kickass, opening paragraph.

 

3. Press Forward

Using quotes that were used to describe your app in important blogs or any other relevant news publications is a great way to establish credibility. Whether you want to include a “Press” section further down in your description, or even incorporate an outstanding press quote as part of your opening paragraph, it’s an extremely efficient way to win over users.

 

4. And…Action!

The first line of your description should always be a call-to-action, such as, “Download now and try it for yourself!” This will immediately engage users and make them more curious about what your app has to offer. Another tip is to refrain from using the same calls-to-action used by many other apps and opt for a different phrase to emphasize your app’s unique traits.

 

5. Show Your Best Features

This one is pretty straight forward – list all of your app’s features and put them in order from the most attractive one to the least prominent one. Make sure you use a similar style of writing for each bullet so that it’s coherent, streamlined, and easy to read.
